Please read this thread about this focus group to again see why "defund the police" is not a good slogan and needs to be repackaged. These folks supported the idea once it was packaged differently https://twitter.com/dannybarefoot/status/1326210279387099136
I read a diff article where an incarcerated black male in DC who was voting for the 1st time said he supported Biden but didn't support "defunding the police." I've had clients say the same thing. Then you explain it and they are with it
We cannot continue to be so arrogant as to go say "why don't they just read, ugh?!" Does "defund Planned Parenthood" connote thoughts of reallocating resources across the community? Of course it doesn't. You think they want to eliminate it!
The dictionary definition of defund is to "prevent from continuing to receive funds." They aren't off base.
For some of the population, they hear "defund the police" and it doesn't mean what our Twitter bubble understands it to be. And that's okay. We have to do better at communicating these ideas & policies that people generally agree on to those who aren't in our bubble

It's okay that the phrasing used by activists is not the same phrasing that is ultimately used by others who support the same idea. It wouldn't be the first time.
I'll add that it should not be "anti" or "against the cause" to watch so many people say "that phrase is vague & ambiguous but I support the idea once it's explained to me" and wish we used something different. That's super uncontroversial, especially when all have the same goal
