Yeah this is a straight up lie https://twitter.com/Anar_Karim/status/1326437397270310912
This is a common refrain used by Azerbaijani scholars, officials etc to lay claim to everything Armenian - that all these centuries-old monuments are not Armenian but actually Caucasian Albanian, a long-disappeared people who once lived in today's Azerbaijan.
The great irony of this is that Caucasian Albanian society and church had essentially been assimilated (into Armenian, Arab etc) populations by the 8th century at the very latest. This monastery is actually *too new* to be Caucasian Albanian. It's nonsense.
This is the deputy minister of culture of Azerbaijan spreading this, by the way. This brazen falsification of history is state narrative in Azerbaijan.
