There are just 50 days to go until the end of the #Brexit transition period
In the last 4+ years, UK & EU researchers & orgs have campaigned for a continued close scientific relationship post-Brexit. A thread looking back

Way back in 2016, when the referendum result was announced, @wellcometrust committed ourselves to ensuring that science and research were properly considered in future negotiations. (2/9) https://twitter.com/wellcometrust/status/748546057399853056
Since then, the research community has contributed to multiple inquiries, published new evidence, run campaigns like @TogetherSciCan and #scienceisglobal and over 6000 people have called for a #dealforscience @EULIFE_news @EuroScience (3/9) https://www.openpetition.eu/petition/online/keep-the-eu-and-uk-collaborating-in-science-dealforscience
We’ve had 4 different UK science ministers (two of them, twice!) pushing for research to be a priority in negotiations. (4/9) https://twitter.com/JoJohnsonUK/status/905399099868008448
We began advocating for an early deal for science in 2018 and outlined what this could look like in a mock negotiation alongside @Bruegel_org (5/9) https://cms.wellcome.org/sites/default/files/a-post-brexit-agreement-for-science-bruegel-wellcome-january-2020.pdf
When no deal loomed later in 2018 (which could be creeping up on us again) there was a huge cross-sector effort to prepare and outline the damage this could cause for research (6/9) https://twitter.com/faisalislam/status/1154997990702141440
A consistent ask from researchers has been for UK continued participation in #HorizonEurope. Both UK&EU have committed to the principle of this in their mandates. Over 100 orgs and individuals have signed a statement urging compromise

So, the UK & EU research sector has been sending the same message for months and years – we want to continue to collaborate post-Brexit. With just 50 days to go, now is the time to compromise. (8/9)
It is concerning that it seems there are still some in UK govt who are reluctant to collaborate with Europe on science in the future. @beththompson sets out today why Horizon association is essential for the Global Britain agenda (9/9) https://www.politicshome.com/thehouse/article/the-covid-vaccine-proves-a-confident-global-britain-must-engage-in-international-partnerships
