So my brother was lucky enough to grab an XSX. A few thoughts in comparison to Stadia.. IMO, I consider next gen to be “game changers” that create new ways of doing old things. By that standard Stadia, Luna, XSX, and PS5 are all next gen in some way, and some more than others.
THREAD START: Load Times

1. From the home screen XSX is faster due to UI and local SSDs. But when timing after the home screens there’s only a few seconds separating the two.

1. Quick Resume is a game changer for console, no doubt about it. That’s next gen...
... Load Times:
2. No downloads/instant play for Stadia, thats next gen.

3. Play on any screen is next gen. Stadia does this today flawlessly, Xcloud will get there.

4. Family Share across multiple family members is next gen, in comparison to game sharing on console.
Graphics:
1. XSX and Stadia are gorgeous in 4K HDR.. Period.
2. Here’s a difference.. compression artifacts. Side by side these are more noticeable for Stadia and does indeed affect overall picture quality in fast moving comparisons.
...Graphics cont.

3. Ray Tracing is a plus for consoles and adds a level of realism therefore I’ll consider this next gen for console. Stadia does not officially discuss Ray Tracing, but we’ve heard devs mention the possibility. I’ve seen evidence or something similar w WD:L.
Performance:

1. Xsx is a powerhouse, but Watchdogs Legion ran at about 30fps while AC:Valhalla clocked in much higher. I’d like to say 60 but it wasn’t a consistent 60fps.
2. Stadia is also a powerhouse due to the basic nature and principles of cloud computing. But..
Performance cont..

...but we have a mixed bag of lazy and rushed development. Some games are flawlessly running in 4K at 60fps while others are being capped at 4K 30fps. Google shares the blame in this due to their Linux and Vulcan backend. More compatibility better ports.
Conclusion:

If next gen is about graphic fidelity alone, then yes consoles provide a cleaner image consistently due to stream compression vs Stadia. But for me, I consider innovation, and believe “game changers” should redefine the industry. In that respect there’s value in each
