OMG! Stop the BS! The reason influenza is NOT RISING is b/c we are NOT TESTING FOR INFLUENZA! Hospitals don't have enough swabs to test for influenza, b/c the swabs are the SAME used to test COVID! It would be nice if COVID19 was added to the respiratory viral panel so that healthcare providers can check for ALL viruses, rather than just COVID19. I haven't checked for influenza or these other viruses since last February.
This is another reason why opening schools is ridiculous. Kids get fevers all the time during the winter, so how can providers differentiate COVID vs the common cold vs. influenza? We can't! Because we don't have the resources to check for other viruses.
