Under the scheme, once a town was chosen, councils were asked to establish a board of stakeholders to negotiate a deal with Mr Jenrick’s department.
We revealed last month that Jenrick sat on Newark’s board throughout the first half of the year….

We now learn from Newark council that he was removed from the board “in the interests of avoiding any perceived conflicts of interest” and “following conversations with the government”.
