Thread. Taking a closer look at the Greg Clarke story, there are going to be a lot of takes. Should the use of the word "coloured" be a sacking offence?
Or is he a victim of changing times? Is the fact that John Barnes always wheeled out, just laziness? John Barnes is one of the most gifted and successful footballers of his generation. Not everyone has the option of letting their talent do the talking.
My main take, looking at Clarke's various comments on a number of subjects, is that he is a well meaning, but fundamentally slightly ignorant man, finding himself out of his depth. Is this a sackable offence? Imo the question should be..........
When will people who moan about "diversity" acknowledge that we have always lived in a country where if your face fits, you can be employed way, wat beyond your ability. Greg Clarke's face fitted, in a way that so many others have not. The FA is clearly not a meritocracy.
To summarise. I'm not going to call for another man's sacking on the grounds of befuddled ignorance. I am going to say that there must have been a million better candidates for the job. His face fitted though, and that was more important than ability.
