I wonder if people are getting the utter hypocrisy and inconsistency in the #UCP gov't's KXL stance. 1/n #Alberta #abpoli #ableg @CJEdmonton @uaclimateaction @ClimateHubYYC @yegstrike @CJ_Macewan @350Canada @TheLeap_Org
On the one hand, the Kenney govt is negotiating with Saudi investors to expand petrochemical production in Alberta. And the other hand, Alberta's Minister of Energy is telling the public this: 2/n
“We are certain, when faced with the choice, American people will continue to choose Canada’s energy over countries such as Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Russia, who don’t share our human rights and environmental values,” Savage said. 3/n https://edmontonjournal.com/news/politics/alberta-ottawa-will-make-case-for-completing-keystone-xl-to-biden-administration
There are no commitments to "human rights" or "environmental values" here. Not even the rights of Alberta landowners whose property is contaminated by inactive wells. 4/n
This is a govt made to serve the interests of a bunch of companies who couldn't care less about anybody's rights. And the UCP is offering Australian multinationals access to the eastern slopes-- 5/n
so they can strip mine mountain ridges, ship out the profits, and leave Albertans with even more environmental damage -- possibly irreversible losses of endangered species and water supply. 6/n
Some days I can't understand how moral reasoning and consideration for future generations can be so completely overridden by the blinkered ideology of the UCP's leadership. Really, what's in it for them? 7/7
