Virtually the entire GOP right now is participating in an extended version of the ritual humiliation Trump put Sean Spicer through when he made him lie about the inauguration crowd size. Only difference is, Trump is on his way out of power, so it’s even more pathetic.
Depending on how this all plays out, it could actually be quite a gift that Trump has delivered us, this thorough debasement of people like Pompeo, Graham, Cruz and McConnell.
When Cruz or Pompeo tries to run for POTUS as a tough guy who can stand up to dictators, the country can laugh uproariously and say "hahahahaha, you couldn't even stand up to the obvious lies about election fraud told by a disgraced reality TV star!"
Nothing says "macho cowboy manliness" like repeating obvious lies that you know are untrue in order to avoid a mean tweet from a tax cheat with a comb over that takes a team of engineers an hour to assemble every morning.
Anyway, never let these democracy-disrespecting sycophants ever laugh this off with a "oh, we were just humoring Trump to stop him from going ballistic." When you're one of the most powerful people in the country, your job is to look out for that country's best interests.
