THREAD: President Donald Trump tonight has retweeted a video of an Erie postal worker who made claims of ballot back-dating by his supervisors. In the video, Richard Hopkins disputes reports that he has recanted his claims. /1
But let's look at how, if true, those claims would impact the vote total. First, there were 129 ballots postmarked Nov. 3 that arrived late to Erie between Nov. 4-6. /2
Second, of those 129 ballots, ONLY two were processed in the Erie postal facility. /3
Third, Hopkins in his affidavit stated the following: that on Nov. 5, he "overheard (postmaster) tell (another supervisor) that they 'messed up yesterday' — Nov. 4 — by accidentally postmarking one ballot as having been collected Nov. 4, 2020 (when it had been collected). /4
Fourth, I reviewed all the envelopes of late-arriving ballots Tuesday morning. Only 2 with a Nov. 3 postmark were from the Erie facility. However, 9 others postmarked in Erie had the dates of Nov. 4 or later. /5
So, if there was a plot to fudge ballot postmarks, it only impacted 2 ballots. There is zero proof of Hopkins claims. They are unsubstantiated allegations from someone who has reported them solely to a consevative activist group know for making misleading and skeptical claims. /6
Whether or not the late-arriving ballots are included in Erie County's vote total when all is said and done won't have any impact on the outcome of the race. Biden got 62 votes. Trump got 58. Jorgensen 8 and there were 2 write-ins. /7
But let's say Hopkins is telling the truth. The question then is why would the Erie postmaster and others back-date two ballots and not the other nine without knowing which candidate received any of the votes on those ballots in the first place? /end
