1. A couple weeks ago I offered to "takeover" someone's Twitter account for a few days and see if I could help them grow it.

Well, today's the day I'm doing it!

For the next 3 days I'll takeover @NateZeisler's account and detail my approach in this thread.

Here's the plan...
2. Over the next three days @NateZeisler will post 15 tweets I wrote for him.

He'll post five per day, separated by about 3 hours each and running from 10 am to 10 pm.

The idea is tweet consistently, provide value, and attract some attention from people with followings.
3. To create the tweets I started by sending @NateZeisler a few questions to answer and then I crafted the tweets based on his answers.

Most of the tweets are his own words, I just polished them a bit and turned them into tweets.

Here are the questions I asked him.
4. As an organizing principle, I chose to create five types of tweets and have @NateZeisler post one of each type each day.

They include:

• Questions
• Threads
• Recommendations
• Links/Promos
• Excerpts (from blog posts)
5. @NateZeisler started posting the tweets this morning.

He has a relatively small following (631 people) and doesn't tweet often so my guess is the algorithm doesn't give him a lot of love and it may be slow going at first, but we'll see.

Here's a look at each tweet we post...
6. The first tweet was met with crickets (so far).

But that's ok - you've got to start somewhere and question/engagement tweets are tough when you've got a small following. https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1326223122320814091?s=20
7. The second tweet was a thread in which I took one of @NateZeisler's more popular blog posts and converted it into a thread that conveys the key points. https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1326268721183272961?s=20
8. The third tweet is a recommendation tweet in which @NateZeisler shares some of his favorite books and tags the authors.

Recommendations are a simple way to provide value to followers. https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1326313795279613953?s=20
9. It appears one of the authors of the books @NateZeisler recommended who has 24k followers has replied to him and thanked him.

👍😉

This is how Twitter works - you get on people’s radar one tweet at a time.

Maybe it leads to nothing, but maybe it leads to something.
10. Here’s a fun update. Just realized I wasn’t following @NateZeisler - woops!

I now am.

He’s also up to 645 followers (+14 since this morning) and told me he’s gotten a couple new newsletter subscribers for the first time from Twitter.
11. The fourth tweet was a straight promo for @NateZeisler's newsletter and helped him get a couple new subscribers.

Never assume people know what you're up to - sometimes, you've got to tell them (and sometimes you've got to tell them again). https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1326358990897483776?s=20
12. The 5th tweet originated w/ @NateZeisler telling me:

"Before I can have a discussion with a client about a sustainable career as a creator, we have to have a discussion about why they are driven to create in the first place."

I turned it into this: https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1326404328089939968?s=20
13. One thing to note in that above tweet is how I took his thought and presented as a tweet that's speaking directly to an individual.

Tweets go out to the masses, but are consumed by individuals - make them feel like you're only speaking to them.
14. The sixth tweet is another thread that's an adaptation of a @NateZeisler blog post.

Remember: The goal isn't website traffic - it's consumption of your ideas.

Make it easy for people to get value.

Don't make them click a link to get it. https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1326585755255402496?s=20
15. A quick follower update.

@NateZeisler is up to 663 followers at the moment, which means he's added 32 new followers since we started yesterday.

Yes, the attention I've sent his way has helped, but he's also gaining followers/engagement from people who don't follow me.
16. And more importantly in the long term, @NateZeisler says he's starting to see Twitter (and how to get value out of it) in a new way.

And I'm personally thrilled that it sounds like a lot of you who are following along are picking up some useful tips here as well!
17. The seventh tweet is another recommendations tweet.

Shining a spotlight on other valuable people is helpful to your followers, helpful to the people you showcase, and helpful to you for those same reasons.

Win-win-win. https://twitter.com/natezeisler/status/1326630807717474306
18. The 8th tweet is a link to one of @NateZeisler’s blog posts that I thought people would find interesting/helpful.

One thing I’ve learned: People are always interested in things related to time (how to save it, what to charge for it, etc) https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1326676285721088000
19. Btw, @NateZeisler told me that while these link tweets aren’t generating a lot of engagement on Twitter, they are sending some traffic to his site.

Here’s what he said to me:
20. This 9th tweet was inspired by an observation @NateZeisler had about the similarities between artists and entrepreneurs that I spun into this.

Observations that you have where you connect dots people may be missing can be good tweet material. https://twitter.com/natezeisler/status/1326721378721157120
21. The 10th tweet was designed to tap into the collective wisdom of @NateZeisler's followers to share value with each other.

Only got one reply so far, but at least it was a good one! https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1326766770410172417?s=20
22. The 11th tweet came out of @NateZeisler's answer to my question about who inspires him other than family and friends.

I tried to find a thruline among his answers and translate it into a broader key lesson - "never underestimate what's possible." https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1326947947481853954?s=20
23. Btw, @Justin_Willman liked the tweet I mentioned above which is cool and likely means some of his followers saw it and were exposed to @NateZeisler's account.

If you're going to mention someone in a tweet, make sure you tag them so they see it!
24. The 12th tweet is a link to a blog post. If you're going to share a link, try to include a summary of the post's content (not just the headline) when you share it. https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1326993335714713602?s=20
25. The 13th tweet just went up and is another excerpt from a @NateZeisler blog post.

You'll note that I skipped a line to use some white space (as opposed to one long paragraph) and had the key point be its own standalone single line for emphasis. https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1327038502383603716?s=20
26. We're in the home stretch now with just two tweets remaining to be posted tonight.

@NateZeisler's up to 666 followers and has gained 35 new followers in since we started this a couple days ago.
27. I also wrote up a post on @IndieHackers explaining what I was doing with @NateZeisler which wound up getting shared on Twitter by them here.

Always look for creative ways to draw extra attention to the things you do - build stories around them. https://twitter.com/IndieHackers/status/1326964477691092996?s=20
28. This just in from @NateZeisler - a bunch of good stuff happening for him (including a product sale!) and he's gearing up to take the ball and run with it after my "takeover" is finished which is awesome.
29. The 14th tweet was an attempt to get @NateZeisler's followers to tag other people which would in turn draw more attention to Nate's account and possibly create opportunities for him to network with some new people. https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1327083828997992448?s=20
30. The 15th (and final) tweet was a thread inspired by @NateZeisler's answer to a question I asked him.

The more people know about you and why you do what you do, the more likely they are to care about it. https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1327129210771607552?s=20
31. Now that the "takeover" has ended, let's take a look at the results.

First, @NateZeisler learned a ton and it's completely changed his perspective on how to use Twitter and what he can get out of it.

His thread about the experience is a must-read 👇 https://twitter.com/NateZeisler/status/1327310995291664384?s=20
33. Ok, now for the stats!

Our 3-day, 15 tweet "takeover" got @NateZeisler...

• 8,400+ impressions
• 1,077 profile visits
• 69 mentions
• 43 new followers

Here's a comparison of his 28-day stats before and after the takeover.

As he said, "This is insane."
34. I'm thrilled with how this turned out and appreciate @NateZeisler's follow through and willingness to share this experience with all of you.

Now that this takeover's a wrap, it makes me wonder if there's a way I can help more of you in a similar fashion.

So...
35. I don't have a specific idea at the moment, but where should we go from here?

• A "takeover" of someone else's account?

• A group coaching thing you could join where I'd guide a bunch of people together on a similar journey?

• Any other bright ideas?
