8 Action Steps Forward for Change

Hey there Friends of the 8th District:

Let's turn our momentum for change #inthe8th into 8 clear Action Steps!
1: My vision was co-created & produced lock step w/ residents. The 6 guiding principles are the priorities YOU wanted to see advancements & positive change in.
If you live, work, worship or play here, please join our #inthe8th working group as we build an advocacy plan around Education, Infrastructure, Growth, Housing, Transportation and Health & Safety. https://forms.gle/1LXApLA2H9C4Sb3fA
2: Do you know how City Government in Richmond works? Understand the roles of the Mayor, City Council, School Board and Departments? Sign up here to take a City Civics class so we can continue to advocate for our needs. https://forms.gle/D25PoCuBawebd3pZ9
3: Make sure you know where and when to watch City Council and Council Committee meetings. It's important that we know what ordinances and resolutions are ahead and ensure our representative is sharing why and how decisions are made. Here is the schedule. https://richmondva.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx
4: We need to attend ALL 8th District meetings and ensure our representative is providing a plan to address the neglect and needs of our neighborhoods. No more seat warmers. There must be accountability and transparency and we will demand it.
5: Budget season is right around the corner. What do we want to see in the budget? Lets read over the current budget and capital improvement plan so we see how our tax dollars are being allocated.
We must ensure our representative is not just saying they are fighting for us, but that the fight is reflected in the budget. http://www.richmondgov.com/Budget/index.aspx
6: Neighborhood and Civic Associations are our building blocks for change. Join the one near you, and if your neighborhood doesn't have one, lets start one. We can build power right where we live. http://www.richmondgov.com/PlanningAndDevelopmentReview/civicassociationgroupinformation.aspx
7: We have 14k+ reg voters #inthe8th but the #’s from the Registrars Office/State Board of Elections are reflecting just over 7k voters in this election. Why is that? We need to spread the importance of voting throughout the 8th & give folks clear reasons why their votes matter.
8: As we focus on Action, the action each of you brought to the 8th around this campaign has been nothing short of amazing. Stay connected! We’ll be transitioning the website/social media sites into places where we can monitor progress & work on solutions to our challenges.
