I love Laporta, I like Font. I’m not clear so far on where I stand. All I ask for is that people judge them on the same basis. Blaming Font for name dropping? Ok. Laporta had the 2003 elections lost until he lied he had signed Beckham. Fishing votes is part of the campaign. Easy.
Personally it feels wrong to criticise Laporta since I love everything he did for the club but this is merely to point out that he wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t Laportas idea to sign Ronaldinho, it was Rosells. It wasn’t his idea to sign Pep, it was Cruyffs. Laporta wanted Mourinho.
Victor Font might be name dropping but one thing he’s been clear on since day 1 is that he won’t be interfering with the sporting decisions. He’ll leave that to people who knows the backbone of this club, such as Xavi, Jordi Cruyff and Puyol. I only see positives in that.
Do I trust Laporta when it comes to bring back our identity and lift us up from the rubble? Yes. But our finances are in shambles. I’m not sure whether or not he has a solid plan structurized to solve that. He isn’t exactly known for his handling of money.
At the end of the day I’m not pro Font/anti Laporta nor the other way around. But people should judge them on the same basis. Victor Font name drops because he has to. Laporta had to do the same in 2003 or he wouldn’t have stood a chance. That’s just facts.
