Once again, defunding police IS police reform. It involves demilitarizing police forces to instead put $$$ toward things like mental health first responders—the majority of 911 calls involve mental health or drug-related crises—& things that actually prevent conflict & violence.

The resistance to defunding police is 100% about racism & normalizing the daily violence police forces inflict on marginalized communities for the benefit of ruling classes. It’s about the ruling elite scaring ppl into thinking the only thing that can keep them safe is police...

...while they simultaneously deprive poor areas of what they need to *actually have safety* like housing, healthcare, education, wages, nutrition, etc. Our tax $ is used to fund state violence instead quality of life improvements. And this is what maintains race/class oppression.

What is outrageous & radical about saying, “maybe instead of buying a set of tanks for our local police force to use against its own community, we put more $$$ toward after school programs instead?” Nothing—unless your end goal is to maintain racial & economic inequality.

The ruling class remains predominantly white but, as always, there are nonwhite people who hold power within the system & personally benefit from upholding the status quo. That’s why they don’t hesitate to side with the police state against the communities they come from...

...and the ruling white elite, as always, sell the benefit of white racial privilege to working class & poor white people to maintain their loyalty—even as working class & poor white people are also left to die as necessary for the preservation of the system.
