One referral is statistically the same as 50+ random applications. They get you into first round interview without amazing GPAs or ECs
If you get to the first round, you're on the same playing field as everyone else.
Even if they went to Harvard
So thats what we're going after

1) Understand the recruiting cycle
most companies have interviews sometime during the fall for their Summer internships next year
Reach out before then, this gives you time to reach out to as many people as possible and ensures you're not too late

2) LinkedIn
Just make a decent LinkedIn page, you don't need a million connections. Just be presentable and up to date
You can start by reverse searching up Employees from your school. Connect w them on LinkedIn
But aint nobody got time for that, heres a easier method

3) IcyLeads
This is a B2B software to scrape emails from the companies you want to work for. Use the software to search target titles at the companies you want to work for
For Ex: Scrape for Engagement Managers at large Consulting Firms and the Results I got

Start by going through and connecting with all of them w an attached note. Something about who you are. Not generic and personalize for every one.
Once you get accepted here is where the real magic starts

4) Video Messages
I learned this from @thedulab
Send them a video message of you introducing yourself, speak to them by name & make a comment about something on their page
I've seen WAYY better response rates with video DMs than just bullshit texts asking to "pick their brain"

Once they respond, try and move the conversation to Zoom/Phone Call
"Ask for a Job and you'll get advice, ask for advice and you'll get a job"
Keep in touch with these people, keep contact over the course of a few weeks
Have them look over your resume and learn from them

To those that don't respond to your LinkedIn messages, send them a personalized cold email
No fucking templates that you send out in mass. Do the minute of work it takes to actually craft a good personalized email

Once you've built up rapport THEN ask them if they could possibly refer you
Lots of people will get bonuses if their Referral ends up being hired
If you're able to present yourself well, they should WANT to refer you. Please don't be pushy or take it personal if they say no

Congrats!
You just got a referral, this usually gets you to the first round interview. It's your performance on those interviews that dictates if you get accepted
Don't stress about not coming from a perfect school or your GPA
Just knock the interview out of the park

I can't write a thread on all the different types of interviews, but here are some good books for each field
Consulting: Case In Point
Tech: Cracking the Coding Interview
Banking: What's Your Story?
Other: Knock 'em Dead Job Interview

This shit works. I promise you.
These strategies really aren't that common, if you do them you'll stand out for sure
You can even use these same strategies to launch an agency. I use these tactics to sell my services to businesses instead of asking for an internship
