As we gear up for #Mizzou hoops, I dusted off Synergy to take a quick look at Drew Buggs' proficiency as a pick-and-roll passer.
In particular, I was curious about Buggs' efficiency distributing the ball to spot-up shooters. Here's a snapshot.

For context, Buggs has many possessions passing to a shooter out of a ball screen in his career (400) as Xavier Pinson and Dru Smith combined. And aside from volume, the end result of those possessions tend to be better.
You can also see why #Mizzou's staff found Buggs alluring. Among ball-handlers available on the transfer market last spring, the former Hawaii point guard was one of the better options.
Buggs ranked 50th nationally in possessions, and 22nd among the group for efficiency.

Like we said in the spring, the grad-transfer market is optimal to find specialists that fill out your roster.
In Buggs, Mizzou found a guy with a ton reps making the right read in a pick-and-roll, especially at locating shooters. Anything else he provides is found money.

For his career, Buggs has attempted roughly 116 catch-and shoot 3-pointers. Only 14 came off a kickout after pick-and-roll, according to Synergy data.
So, yeah. He's more often the supplier than the recipient.
