Quality > Quantity.
Going beyond the nonsense that is comparing an hyperactive and talkative jokester in an action movie to an introverted and reflective hero in a serious drama, more lines don’t make for better characters.

Did.. did that person forget that there is such thing as non-verbal dialogue? Actions? Expressions? Gestures? Framing? The foundations of “show dont tell”?
ANYTHING??
ANYTHING??
Zack Snyder’s Clark Kent spoke only when he had something to say, normally keeps to himself, avoids the spotlight and thinks deeply about the consequences of his actions. He listens to conversations more than he starts them.
This is what’s commonly known as an INTROVERT.

Civil War’s Peter Parker is an easily excitable kid whose dialogue consists 90% of quips, fanboyisms towards the Avengers or both. He’s a walking, talking “OMGOSH GUYS IM SPIDERMAN!!!!! WITH THE AVENGERS!!!! THIS IS AWESOMEMRSTARKOMGOSH”
He’s written as a character that’s supposed to represent how audiences “should” feel like. Instead of letting the storytelling play by itself, his character constantly lampshades the supposed “awesomeness” of the situation, as if we couldn’t figure it by ourselves.
That alone should highlight the amount of respect towards the audience’s intelligence CW has compared to BvS.
CW, and a good portion of the MCU in general, stops to TELL you how you should feel about their characters. BvS SHOWS what do these characters feel.

You don’t need Superman to look at the camera and say “Please stop doing this. I’m not a god, I just want to help..” when his expressions, his movements, the framing and the music can tell you that.
Films are VISUAL works. Their storytelling IS in their style.

People are right when they say the MCU Spidey is “comicbooky”, but probably for the wrong reasons.
All comics have is colors and speech bubbles. Thats all they can use to convey storytelling and characters.

CW’s Spider-Man has a comic accurate suit, sure. He talks and jokes a lot, sure. He does a lot of cool flips and tricks, no question.
But if I wanted any of these things, I could just grab a comic. Why not use what films allows at your full advantage?

Call it however you want, I call it “Inherent Embarassement With The Source Material”.
IEWTSM is one of the MCU’s biggest gags, and one of their biggest problem. How often do characters stop to point out the ridiculousness of something?

How many “haha, its funny because its ridiculous” jokes can you count per MCU movie?
They’re praised for not taking themselves seriously, but then why should I? Why should I care about these stories if even the people behind them are ashamed of taking them seriously?

We get it. Comicbook characters dont exist and are inherently fantastical. Gotcha, funny.
Snyder’s DC films have seriousness and respect to the mythos that are mostly unmatched in the genre. For crying out loud, he frames these characters with art, religion and mythology.

You don’t do that when you think these characters are just dumb fun for children.
You don’t do that with characters you’re secretly ashamed of.
And you sure as hell don’t do that when you want to treat your mostly adult audience as... adults.
