You purge the DoD because you anticipate needing the military. You know, like in a coup. Where you anticipate having to use the military against your own populace. So you install your cronies, and all of us watch this and feel like we're screaming into the void. https://twitter.com/AVindman/status/1326282555952418816
Every single thing they've done points to a coup. Even Pompeo saying the quiet part aloud. The horrible feeling that you have right now is because, you, the average American citizen, can't do anything about it. We hold very little power here.
And yes, votes are power. But now the votes are being ignored. Now it's us watching this all unfold. Now it's a waiting game to see whether they use the military, whether they keep trying to delegitimize votes, whether a lot of things happen in a certain way.
And I want to say the game is going to go our way, but I can't predict that. None of us can predict what will happen. And that's why it's so fucking frightening.
The tiny bit of power we have, btw, is that we can strike. We can protest. We can take to the streets like they've done in Belarus, in Poland, in countless other nations. There's power in many voices raised together as one. 5/
My husband: It’s not a coup yet. You’re being disrespectful to the countries that have actual coups. [Peru is in the midst of one.]
Me: But it’s an autocratic power move.
H: That doesn’t mean it’s going to work.
Me: You also thought the pandemic would be contained in 2 months. 6/

Peru coup info, btw. 7/ https://twitter.com/noahhurowitz/status/1326305997149904896
The point, btw, is not whether we’re having an actual coup or not, but the damage that’s being done to our country by Trump during this attempt. It’s literally undermining our entire electoral system by saying things aren’t legitimate. 8/
I would just like to add that my husband is a lovely and intelligent person, despite our disagreement about this.
But yeah, it's absolutely a soft coup, people. 9/

Anyway, I think our great mistake in all of this is to assume that Trump is nothing more than a petulant child. He's corrupt as hell, and like a magnet, corruption draws in even more corruption. The people in his administration are just as complicit in whatever's going on. 10/
This tweet is a thing of beauty. (Still a coup though.

I read this article last month and forgot it existed until @effies linked to it. So, I’m adding it to the thread because it’s quite useful to have concrete steps about what to do. 13/13 https://wagingnonviolence.org/2020/09/10-things-you-need-to-know-to-stop-a-coup/
