A question was posed to a group of politicians this morning about how to reach people who are voting against healthcare protections even though it was against their interests. And I wanted to answer that question because it is really crucial to stopping the assault on healthcare.
My answer will likely surprise you, but **data won't change anyone's mind.**

It has not in the past, and it will not in the future.
Personal beliefs about the ACA cannot be countered with evidence about it saving lives and resources overall. They cannot be countered with graphs.
No amount of data is going to stop the assault on healthcare protections for Georgians and indeed all Americans.
The way to convince people that the right that is healthcare is good for their community is to elevate the voices of those community members who have been helped by access to and affordable use of healthcare protections.
The voices of small business owners who are able to have healthcare coverage for their families despite preexisting conditions.
The voices of moms who had children on a plan that did not have a massive penalty for being pregnant, or specifically exclude the cost of childbirth from coverage.
The story of getting an DKA diagnosis in the ER and being able to get stabilized *and* setting up glucose monitoring and treatment for the preexisting condition.
The story of proud parents whose kid is an artist, a performer, (a young scientist!) on a contract job that would previously have not been open to them because they could not buy health insurance.
But don't tell this story in the abstract, find the voices. There are so many people out there for whom ACA protections have been lifesaving and the reason for continued economic stability.
People will continue to vote against the best interests of their community until they understand that *it is their community that needs these protections too*
