The plan isn’t to just let the electoral college votes get counted as they should. The plan is pretty clearly to convince states to say that they’re unable to verify the vote totals and therefore must appoint their own electors, and either send pro-Trump ones or none.
If they can get Biden’s total under 270 somehow, they can get it bounced over to the House where they will vote for Trump. He will remain in power, and it will have all been technically legal. And hey, even if it’s not legal, the right-wing activists on the court won’t care.
