Unpopular opinion: There is something amiss, and by amiss I mean racist and paternalistic, about demanding Black folks get a COVID vaccine. Healthcare systems routinely deny Black folks equal care. But let a Black person decline a vaccine, then their health problems are on them.
Our healthcare systems need to ensure Black folks, in particular, have equal access to ALL manners of care that they need, deserve and want. Until we do that, we are in no place to demand anything of Black folks. And everyone is worse off because of that.
In terms of the COVID vaccine, I think healthcare systems have to begin with massive information campaigns to counter the upswell of misinformation targeting Black communities. More on that here: https://twitter.com/RheaBoydMD/status/1326237614781857792
