Apple claim the M1's high-perf core is the world's fastest CPU core (so higher at single thread than AMD or Intel), and each SoC has 4 of those (and 4 low-power cores, + neural engine). Sounds promising.
8 CPU cores, 8 GPU cores (with 128 execution units), and 16 cores of neural engines... that's a lot of cores. All at 5nm with 16 billion transistors.
The unified memory inside the SoC package is also neat. Shared memory with GPU, less need to copy stuff over from RAM, should save on power and improve performance.
Craig Federighi: "M1 so fast that some apps and games run faster on rosetta [real-time translation app from x86 to ARM] than they did on Intel" 🔥🧯👩‍🚒🚒
New Macbook Air's CPU performance 3.5x faster than it was under Intel previously. 5x faster graphics. Wow. It's almost like Moore's Law is back for a moment.
And new Macbook Air doesn't have a fan... totally silent. 2x faster SSD thanks to new controller and flash. 2x longer battery life. Faster than 98% of laptop PCs (most of which are much bigger/heavier than an Air).

This is the biggest upgrade to a laptop ever.
Giving love to the Mac Mini. I love it. I've always used Minis as living room media servers. Looking forward to next update.
And lowering price despite making it a much better value than before. I guess they decided to give some of Intel's margin back to increase market share. Not a bad move.
MacBook Pro too.. much faster than Intel previous version.

Apple crushing both Intel and AMD on its first PC chip (well, looking forward to third party benchmarks...).
MBP: 20 hours of battery life for video playback... In a 3lbs laptop.
