To Rolls Royce something is to over engineer it.

To make it better than it needs to be.

For it to fit more than it's purpose.

Rolls Royce do not market their vehicles through traditional means.

They're quality and legacy speak more for them than any global campaign.

If you have the money and want luxury.

You buy a Rolls.
So if you are thinking about starting a brand around a product, make that product the best it can fucking be.

It will serve you far better into the future than any Instagram competition or celebrity endorsement will.
Black wing pencils sell for £30 for a box of 12.

They're seen as the best pencils in the world.

How can such a rudimentary tool create such value.

Because it's a genuinely better product.

And people will pay for quality.
This then creates a feedback loop.

Better quality, more highly reverred, more highly valued, seen as a better product.

As long as the quality doesn't drop through over expansion and product diversity.
Some older line pencils that have been discontinued have been sold on Ebay for £40 a pencil (One for you flippers)
Rolex limit the amount of watches they produce, circulate and sell.

If you had your eye on a particular watch, you couldn't just walk into your closest dealer and buy it.

You'd have to join a waiting list or know someone.
This quality of product matched with an exclusive range builds an unrivalled equity.
Not all brands can do this, and not all brands need to.

Lounge underwear isnt agent provocateur but still does exceptionally well.
Water is free and better for you than Coca Cola yet coke is a global giant.
My point here isnt that you need to sell diamond encrusted phone cases to build a good brand.

Merely that your product is your biggest tool.

Get that right before anything.

And once it's launched, improve rapidly.
