The future of political evangelicalism is the hot topic post-Trump. But I wonder if the evangelical talk says more about the evangelical elite and their influence. People like Robert Jeffress and other "court" evangelicals attempt to set the political tone as much as they can.
But I'm not so sure the narrative of undying evangelical support of Trump fits the average believer. I'd say most weren't radicalized, or even enamored, by Trump. Trump, like other Repubs, pushed for pro-life and religious liberty. Which is all most evangelicals look for.
I suspect the future of political evangelicalism looks much like the past. It seems evangelicals are finding more ways to be socially engaged in increasingly non-politicized ways. But I doubt evangelical voting patterns will change without a platform change by one of the parties.
