The FDA has just recently granted an EUA to Lilly's Antibody treatment Bamlanivimab for COVID19

This particular study is an ongoing phase 2 trial that involved outpatients with recently diagnosed mild or moderate COVID19.. The results that came out is an interim
analysis of what is going on in this particular trial thus far... This study was a randomized double blind placebo controlled single dose trial conducted at 41 centers in the U.S.

Patients were randomized to receive a single IV infusion of neutralizing antibody in 1 of 3
doses (700mg, 2800mg, or 7000mg) or placebo. The primary outcome was change from baseline in viral load at day 11. The major clinical outcome was Covid19 related in patient hospitalization, visit to the ER, or death..

1 of the 3 doses (2800mg) showed to accelerate natural
decline in viral load but the other doses did not by day 11. The percentage of patients who ended up with a covid19 hospitalization or ER visit was 1.6% in the treatment group vs 6.3% in the placebo group.. Another interesting thing to note is that serious side effects
occurred in none of the patients in the treatment group.. The most frequently reported side effect was nausea (3.9%).. Infusion related reactions occurred but they were mild and no change in vital signs were noted as well..
An important thing to note as well is that decreased viral load by day 11 was not a clinically meaningful endpoint because the viral load decrease from baseline was substantial also in the placebo group which is consistent with the natural course of the disease.. So
what does this all mean?? In my opinion I think it means that we may have something to utilize as an early intervention in the outpatient setting to prevent hospitalization.. Preventing hospitalization is very important because a subset of those patients end up getting
severe disease.. I think this study is very interesting what do y'all think??? Comment below if you have any remarks about this paper.
