yellow peril and our perception of china 🇨🇳 and the dprk 🇰🇵
disclaimer- i’m not an expert, i’m just writing out my thoughts and observations as a chinese communist
the way the west views china and the dprk are only extensions of the yellow peril. they are painted as looming existential threats, while the western world (canada, the us, western europe) are painted as the beacons of freedom and democracy.
britain didn’t “teach” hk the idea of democracy like hkers would tell you. let go of your bourgeoise idea of democracy and the idea that the global south needs the west to “teach” or “restore” democracy.
the caricatures liberal media sources paint it xi jinping and kim jong un blatantly resemble yellow peril propaganda. it depicts them as looming figures that serve as existential threats to the western world.
yes, sinophobic propaganda about china and the dprk have been fed to us since birth, but our willingness to eat up whatever propaganda we see should be telling of how sinophobia has been hammered into our minds and has largely distorted our perception of china and the dprk
for example, when there were propaganda about kim jong un allegedly confiscating all the dogs in pyongyang. this was clearly a set up by the media for all the dog eating jokes.
the source this claim traces back to is the chosun ilbo, a conservative newspaper. every time you see one of these outlandish claims about the dprk, the source that fabricated this claim will always never specify the exact “reliable” source they claim to have gotten the info from
and saying chinese and dprk citizens are all brainwashed drones is not the activism you think it is when asians have been stereotyped to be submissive, easily controlled creatures
how is it that chinese/dprk citizens are both brainwashed, but also all yearning to be saved by our (white, western) bourgeoise democracy? how can chinese people be yearning for freedom when the chinese communist party is the largest communist party in the world?
the chinese communist party has almost 92 mil members. a vastly larger number of people have applied, but failed since cpc membership requires a difficult process of studying communism, an admission test, and proving your loyalty through serving the community
remember- this is just about cpc members alone, not cpc supporters
this is why it’s not worthwhile to listen to most chinese americans, who are the most guilty of egging on sinophobia and yellow peril propaganda to be seen as “the good chinese”
american exceptionalism affects us all and chinese americans are always trying their hardest to separate themselves from china in order to prove that they’re better than THOSE chinese
covid has reflected this, with chinese americans swearing “but not ALL of us eat bats/dogs”. while this is true, there is nothing innately wrong with eating bats, dogs, etc. it’s only “wrong” bc of how western centric is our idea of being “civilized”.
and yes, a large majority of people support the cpc but not every chinese person supports xi jinping’s decisions. i was only trying to say that the idea that the chinese people are trapped and controlled by the cpc is sinophobic, not that everybody supports everything china does
(i’m putting this disclaimer because sometimes my wording is off or i typed something wrong)
the idea that covid was created by china isn’t just a theory by conservatives, but is also a theory pushed by democrats. liberals have been saying calling it the “china virus” is wrong (and it is) but are just as guilty of pushing sinophobia and aggression against china
this idea that china created the virus only goes back the yellow peril idea that the chinese want to control the world and that chinese people are dirty
this theory about the wuhan lab has been debunked multiple times, but it is still being pushed in the media.
ok i got sidetracked but going back to what i said about the cpc, the us gov passed a travel ban on communist party members. this applies for all communist party members across the world, but considering us-china relations —
is clearly targeting the chinese communist party, the largest communist party and second largest political party in the world. it is not only party members, but family members of party members. cpc members are 1/16 chinese people.
this would mean a huge percentage of chinese people would be barred from entry, reminiscent of the chinese exclusion act.
and with the us, china and the dprk are def not the aggressors like how the media paints them out to be. china and the dprks nuclear arsenal combined would be around 400. the us as over 7000. the us tries to disarm china and the dprk, who are defending themselves —
from military aggression from the largest military superpower in the world.
ok i’m done for now and i’ll prob add on to this, but in conclusion we are in the midst of the yellow peril / cold war: the re-up and i hope this thread changed your perception on some things
