Here’s the truth: allegations of problems with Georgia’s elections are nothing more than winks and nods to make sure
Trump republicans show up to vote again in January. Nothing more, nothing less.

These shameful attacks undermine our democratic institutions. https://twitter.com/bluestein/status/1326177150052032513
I observed absentee and provisional ballots being processed and counted in Cobb County. So did state and national Republican observers.

This happened across the entire state.

Every single ballot and vote has been accounted for by hardworking county election workers.
I should know. I established the most comprehensive statewide voter protection effort in the country when I became the Democratic Party of Georgia’s voter protection director in early 2018.

I left that position to run for state house 11 months ago, but the work continued.
I have seen efforts to limit access to the ballot. A minority party has tried to entrench itself in power by making it more difficult to vote.

2020 is a testament to how voters can overcome barriers when they understand the stakes.

January 5, the stakes here are enormous.
Every reference to “illegal votes” is election theater, signaling to a base that Trump republican voters need to come out on January 5 to maintain power in the Senate.

They are nothing more than winks and nods.
By undermining our elections, Republican leadership is signaling its willingness to undermine our fundamental institutions for the sake of raw power.

A Democratic majority in the Senate can pass reforms to protect the right to vote—and that threatens Republicans in power.
A Democratic majority in the Senate will increase Americans access to healthcare, and loosen the hold that the insurance industry has over our choices.

That is what is at stake here.
So many industries stand to lose ground if a Democratic majority is in place across our government—private prisons, fossil fuels, for-profit schools—it’s no wonder these folks are trying to undermine the foundations of our government, when they see their profit margins at stake.
But Republicans and their sponsors are playing with fire.

Media needs to lead with the truth—not with these false statements.

And everyone needs to recognize the real end goals here.

Georgians? We need to go out and vote—December 1, and January 5.

Now go. Get the thing done.
