Today, we are conducting a focus group with voters who leaned Biden but flipped to Trump in the last two weeks of the election. Basically we had a ton of leaners tagged in the voter file from our polling. We went back to those people and asked about their final vote.
We'll explore what flipped these people from leaning Biden to pulling the lever for Trump. I have no idea how influential these flippers were to Biden's underperformance vis-à-vis the polls. But talking to voters who changed their minds seemed more productive than arguing on here
This group is mostly white women, very few college degrees, but many of them have "some college." It will be easy for some to dismiss these people as Trump voters (and they are!) but 70% of them have a negative view of Trump and at some point leaned Biden.
I think it's worthwhile for our party to try and figure out why. I have been pretty vocal about my personal opinion re: Trump supporters. But our party has to figure out a way to not just win elections but to win by enough to fix the systemic issues in our democracy.
