Governor Scott begins today's press briefing by saying the numbers in Vermont and elsewhere is troubling. We're seeing a rise in cases that tells us "the risk is higher than we're used to," he says. #vtpoli
****Most of the country has cases higher than 400 per million, so as of today, the state is suspending its travel map and requiring a 14-day quarantine (or a 7-day quarantine and negative test) for ALL people coming into or returning to Vermont from out of state.****
"The bottom line is if you don't need to travel now, don't."
Emergency and essential travel is still allowed, under the state guidelines. But the governor hopes that people who can avoid travel will do so. He says a lot of the new case growth has associations with out-of-state travel.
To curb the spread, Scott says extra measures are needed. "This will take every Vermonter committing to wearing a mask, keeping 6 feet from others," following travel guidance, and limiting the number of people we come in contact with.
"And I do mean we need every Vermonter," he says, and says he wants to speak to the skeptics, pleading with them to help, even if they don't agree with these guidelines. They will save lives, he says, and perhaps even the lives of people they love.
DFR Commissioner @MikePieciak now, with a grim overview of what the modeling tells us about Vermont and the rest of the country. The US has more than 10 million cases.
