the best solution I have found to “my kid has been chattering about this comic/minecraft thing/random whatever for an hour and I love him so much but I’m so tired” is THIS MAGICAL PHRASE:

“Awesome. I do want to hear this! Tell me your top three things.”
Can be further limited to “ok challenge! We are working on storytelling skills! Can you do this in 5 sentences or less? Go!”
It works every time, they really do learn storytelling skills, no one gets their feelings hurt, and if I’m too tired from listening, I don’t have to get exhausted
