I'm really angry about COVID-19. And it isn't because this exists, and it isn't because of China, and it isn't even because of the fact that people are dying and getting extremely sick.
It's that a lot of this could be avoided if we just had common decency and respect. 1/

I understand that commerce needs to continue, and businessees need to operate & all of that. I'm not condoning "shutting down the economy" or anything like that. I'll admit that that strategy failed miserably in the spring and probably cost us billions, if not trillions of $$$ 2/
Where my frustration lies is in what we CAN control. Sports shouldn't be happening (certainly not with fans). Theme parks shouldn't be open. Restaurants should only have outdoor seating or at least be force to adhere to very strict guidelines. 3/
These are all things that aren't necessary in life. Yet we can't figure out how to just stay the hell away from each other when it's preventable. Sure, there's economic impact in stopping these things -- write policy and give breaks to these SMBs hardest hit. Way more than PPP 4/
Instead, we are so selfish that we have all of these mass gatherings for Biden winning the election in the streets of big cities, Notre Dame fans rushing the field after beating the #1 team in the country, and gatherings all over the country that could be spreaders. 5/
So what are we left with? We're politically charged so much and trained to think that either Trump's event with ACB OR the celebrations after Biden's victory were bad events.
Wrong. They're ALL bad events, and none of them should be happening. 6/

So I'm angry. I'm angry that our politicians can't get their fucking shit together and write laws that make sense for the people who so badly need the assistance in this, one of our darkest hours in American history. 7/
And I'm angry that we can't just wear fucking masks and stay away from each other unless truly NECESSARY. It isn't THAT hard. The end is at least tangibly near with the news yesterday about the Pfizer vaccine. This isn't going to be forever. 8/
What's the end result in my life? Just got news of two different 40-somethings in my orbit dying. One, a 40-something who had terminal cancer, and the end of his life was affected terribly by COVID. The other? A 3-week battle with COVID-19. 9/
I get that we didn't know about this virus in April and May and all of that, and we didn't have the advice about masks, goggles, or what have you.
But it's fucking November people. We know that masks save lives. We know that avoiding gatherings saves lives 10/

And yet we, as a society, just can't do it. "COVID fatigue," they say.
Fuck "COVID fatigue." Stop being fucking selfish. Wear a goddamn mask. Stay away from people when you don't have to be around them. Let science do science things, and we'll have a vaccine for this soon. 11/

Then we get back to our daily lives and all of the WANTS in our lives. We are not entitled to "wants." They aren't birthrights. We owe it to each other, all throughout this world to be better to each other. For now? Take two goddamn seconds and think about what you are doing 12/
When you don't wear a mask, you aren't hurting yourself for the most part. You're hurting everyone around you. Why are you so selfish? It isn't THAT inconvenient. And sure, there are exceptions to every rule. But the majority of us, the mask is nothing but an inconvenience. 13/
So stop being selfish. Give this some time. For the first time, we ARE rounding the corner in this fight. But in the meantime, we are experiencing tremendous waves of this virus, and so many of us are being affected. 14/
Please do your part. It really IS life or death. Hopefully you haven't seen anyone in your close orbit affected by COVID, and I pray that you never do. But for those of us who have... think about us. Your life will go back to normal one day. For many, that won't be the case.
