This is basically what I was getting at on @SplitZoneDuo when I mentioned that Florida must have seen something in Georgia's boundary side defense because all of the wheels were into the boundary. Remember Eric Stokes said "they knew our checks" https://twitter.com/cameronsoran/status/1326022415747485697
This is sorta beside the point but Georgia's defense did have a situation where they sniffed it out. Remember the Copeland pick/wheel combo to get Wright open? Georgia's trying to rob what they think is gonna be a crosser from Copeland, ends up being a pick play.
Florida came back to it later in the first half and had the safety try to take care of it to no avail.
Third time's the charm ... Florida motions to the 3X1 set, Georgia smells something fishy. The corner backs off and Copeland doesn't quite get the pick off. LB covers it well and Trask takes a sack.
The very next play, Florida gets ALL of it back with this Malik Davis catch out of the backfield. It's technically not a wheel I guess but it's RB to the boundary combined with in-line TE going vertical.
That Davis catch look familiar? Florida did basically the exact same thing in the 1Q with Pitts as in-line TE going vertical and then running the wheel out to the boundary behind it (albeit they motioned Davis back into the "core" of the formation after he started flexed out)
Anyway, Florida put Georgia's boundary side defense in a blender with complementary parts. UGA made Toney a church mouse (for the most part) and I did not see "200 receiving yards from the backs" coming.
Football is easy.
