"The number of people held in prisons under immigration powers now comprises more than a third of the number of people held in detention overall in the UK. This is no longer a sideline issue." - Panel chair, @Geerthanshan
Covid-19 has sharpened our awareness of the unfair treatment of people in immigration detention in prison:
During the first lockdown, all visits were stopped and people were held in their cells for 23 hours a day. The mental health impact of this cannot be ignored.

@tomgnunn "People detained in prison under immigration powers are very much hidden."
"I spoke to someone who had been held under immigration powers for 12 months without realising. Even his probation officer thought he was still in prison."

@tomgnunn "In prison you can only phone out, not in, so I can't phone my clients in detention. They need to have my number approved and added to their pin before they can call. Recently it's been taking over 5 weeks for a number to be approved on someone's pin"
