Here we go then! Why @Nigella_Lawson is the UK’s @DollyParton, and therefore the woman to heal the soul of our divided country [

3. Most importantly and unusually - beloved by all demographics.
Everyone from literal communists like @AyoCaesar to horny dads to urban gays to millennial women AND their mums are brought together by Nigella under one (leopard print) flag.

4. So far, so Dolly. But what makes Nigella the woman to bring our particular fractured nation together, over a plate of knockout brownies? Like all things on this benighted clutch of islands, it comes down to class.
5. In contrast to Dolly, Nigella was born and raised in an Establishment setting. Daughter of a Tory Chancellor and an heiress, Oxford University, The Times, unctuously posh accent - it reassures the old guard. BUT!
6. …she is also open-minded, curious, and from a minority. Nigella supports and funds everything from trans people, to socially conscious and diverse food writers - @vittleslondon, @rubytandoh, @BootstrapCook ; and her writing brings Jewish cooking to the mainstream.
7. (It’s worth saying that while Dolly famously never defines her politics but lives it, Nigella sets out her political stall more - but I suspect her class keeps the Establishment feeling comfortable.)
8. The same balance goes for Nigella’s food - enough roasts and pasta to keep the home counties happy, but also inherently urban and cosmopolitan without appropriating (the first time I saw halloumi and avocado was via Nigella). She cooks for crowds, for her kids, for herself.
9. Nigella delivers sexiness and camp, keeping straight and queer men happy. And for women? Nigella is talking straight to us when she discusses her mother, the dangers of disordered eating, or most revolutionary of all - the importance of eating for pleasure

10. In conclusion! Nigella and her food stand for non-judgemental generosity, balancing our deep need for comfort with celebration of difference (fish finger bhorta!) She takes Britain’s glorious mishmash of influences and adds fun (and cream). Nigella IS Britain - only better.
11. Basically, @BBCSounds, if you want to commission the podcast series 'Nigella Lawson’s Britain' from me... I have my own recording kit and I am ready to journey into the Nigellaverse.
