not for me to offer advice to an entity I'm no longer involved with, but this is a great demonstration of why hollow, endorsement based "coalition-building" with polarising and toxic figures can ultimately become a political liability! https://twitter.com/Emma_Roddick/status/1326159651927416833
The folks in charge of CWG are fundamentally good and decent comrades (and people I consider friends) who have dedicated tremendous effort for the cause, whose progressive credentials are not in doubt and who aren't bigots. None of my criticism is for them in a personal capacity.
But the fact that to marginalised people, CWG is becoming synonymous with bigotry and crankery reflects a complete failure of strategy and betrays the values that it was founded upon. And there's little evidence the strategy is even delivering on its own very limited terms.
I regret not doing more to fight when I was active, but the few times I spoke up (e.g on BLM and transphobia) I ran up against the inherent limits of what the project itself set out to achieve, and realised the essential problem - that something fundamentally different is needed
