War time compassion; a thread.

On December 20, 1943 a German pilot spared an American bomber from certain death. They later met in 1990 and continued a friendship until their final days. War is filled with stories of enemies expressing compassion for one another.
In that moment of compassion, German soldier Franz Stigler recalled the words of his commanding officer, “You follow the rules of war for you — not your enemy. You fight by rules to keep your humanity.”
Leadership shows up in moments and places you least expect or may never witness; but it’s there. Anytime you go out of your way to help someone, to coach someone, to support someone, you’re making an impact on the world you may never be privy to, but it matters.
Kindness matters. Compassion matters. Leadership matters.

Here is the story of what happened on that day on December 20, 1943 http://ow.ly/CHap30rjmVS
