IMPORTANT! This bill to expand assisted suicide is before parliament right now. Please read & follow @TrudoLemmens

“The bill would transform MAID from a procedure to facilitate dying into a terminal therapy for life's suffering” but only for ppl w chronic illness or disability https://twitter.com/trudolemmens/status/1326132021215760384
“unlike any other country in the world, the new bill fails to explicitly require that all reasonable options be made available and tried first, before allowing physicians to end a patient's life.”
It literally takes longer to even put the (insufficient) care options in place let alone fine tune them to suit your needs and try them out, then it does to apply for, be approved and carry out MAID. It’s so much more cost effective & efficient to kill us.
The Federal Government is so anxious to get moving on this that they plan to reduce the number of hearings to discuss what will be the most wide open - for disabled people and people with chronic illness - assisted suicide in the entire world - during a pandemic.
Please send a copy of @TrudoLemmens piece to your MP. Please let them know you do not support the fast-tracking or content of Bill C-7.

This is quite urgent and extremely important. Please give it at least as much attention as you have the US election.
I’m not sure Canadians realize there is no legal obligation to provide you with the option and means to live with dignity before they proceed with assisted suicide. So let’s say I said: I want support to live at home. If suitable support exists (often doesn’t bc funding) then...
You can’t argue that MAID is not being offered as a more cost effective alternative if you as a government are not funding and providing an appropriate and in line with UNCRPD alternative to it.
I believe the changes the federal Liberals are trying to rush through with C-7 are of enormous consequence in the short term to individual lives and in the longer term to what kind of healthcare and community supports will be created & funded for disabled people. This is a moment
I remember when as a result of slick lobbying by the well heeled proponents, some people on here called the concerns of disabled people hyperbolic and absurd. They were the exact same people who said same about concerns raised around Trump pre POTUS period.
They waved us off, sent us to the corner, told us to get tin hats. And yet here we are in a pandemic where several disabled people have applied for the only option they feel is being available to them by the govt. Maybe it’s time to start being less cavalier and dismissive.
