VC Professor Lynn Dobbs opened #LondonMetXHEPI by speaking about her own "obsession" with civic engagement which she says is underpinned by what @LondonMetUni "has always done. Our role isn't just to educate people, but to work with our local partners to drive equity."
Councillor @JanetBurgess1 adds that despite the popular vision of Islington as a centre of affluence, there are high rates of poverty, particularly among elderly residents. She says universities can provide the "sustained, strategic engagement" needed to reskill local residents.
