THE IMPORTANCE OF SECOND CHAPTER OF BHAGWAT GITA.

In south direction there lived a Brahmin called Dev Sharma at Purandarpur. He was a scholar, respected his guests, performed rituals and always served the Tapasvis. He routinely performed the Yagya's for the satisfaction of devtas.
But somehow he remained unhappy. He was eager to serve and know the Param tattva. He doubled his efforts to attain this.

Once a Mahatma happened to come to his house, who was totally dedicated to Parmatma who was always meditating and looked happy and contented.
After paying his respect to the Mahatma, Dev Sharma narrated his woe about not getting peace of mind. The Mahatma asked him to go and meet Mitravaan, a shepherd from Soupur. He would preach Dev Sharma about attaining peace.
So Dev Sharma travelled to Soupur
And saw a huge forest on its northern side. He saw Mitravaan sitting next to river at the edge of the forest. He respectfully went to the Shepherd and asked him to provide Knowledge about Atma. He wanted to be preached as to how could he attain that Siddhi.
So Mitravaan narrated to him the incident that had happened to him. He said that once when he had taken his sheep's for grazing, a tiger came near him. Mitravaan pushed his sheep forward and ran backwards to escape. But one sheep fearlessly went right in the front of tiger
and challenged the tiger to eat her. The tiger replied that all his hunger vanished as soon as he(tiger) came here. The sheep asked him why did he feel so, but the since they did not know the reason for this reluctance they decided to ask someone else.
They both came to Mitravaan and repeated their the question about tiger's reluctance to kill. Since he too did not know the answer, they looked at Vaanar raj to answer their query.

So Vaanar raj narrated an ancient incident to them. He told them that deep
inside the forest was a temple. Inside the temple there was a Shivling established by Brahma. Many years ago, a Brahmin named Sukarma looked after the Temple. His time was totally engaged in the service of Shiva.
Once a learned guest visited that temple.
After serving him, Sukarma told the gentleman that he was serving and worshipping Shiva for these many years to know Tattva Gyan(Know your self). His efforts were fruitful as this scholar was at his door. The learned guest happily inscripted the second
2nd chapter of Gita on a huge rock situated there. He asked Sukarma to read and repeat this chapter routinely to attain Tattva gyan and he went away.

From then on Sukarma recited the second chapter of Gita constantly. After sometime he attained the Knowledge of Atma.
and its Tattva and lived happily hereafter.

So Mitravaan, Tiger and Sheep came back. Mitravaan too started the recitation of the second chapter of Gita. He too experienced the Gyan. He lived happily hereafter.
So hence forth even Dev Sharma adopted the habit of chanting the second chapter of Gita and experienced Peace.

So the seventy two verses of second chapter of Gita basically teach you to discover and know your inner self.
