We've seen some concerns raised regarding air quality post-implementation monitoring of recent #StreetSpace schemes in Dulwich, so thought we'd summarise what we know:
1) Here is the council's Streetspace FAQ response in relation to air quality monitoring from July:

2) A more detailed explanation can be found in the LTN briefing presented to Southwark's Environment Scrutiny Committee on 4th November

3) At the same meeting, Lucy Saunders (Director of Healthy Streets Ltd & working with @GSTTCharity who are providing funding for 3 new LTN schemes in Southwark) presented this slide. It explains why air quality won't be monitored as part of these externally-funded schemes.
4) The above fits with our understanding of how difficult it is to measure air pollution from hearing experts like Dr Ian Mudway speak passionately on the subject. We've heard him urge caution when looking at data from air quality monitors under ÂŁ250k.
So how *will* the schemes be assessed?
We found this answer in the Dulwich Village Streetspace FAQ from July.

In conclusion, the absence of air quality data in the monitoring is no surprise because not only is air quality really hard to attribute to a specific scheme, but also the benefits of schemes go way beyond air quality.
