Just got my account back after Twitter locked it for retweeting a tweet about Benford's law and the US presidential election.

Benford's law/law of anomalous numbers is an observation about the frequency distribution of leading digits in many real-life sets of numerical data.

/1
Twitter deemed that my action violated their rules against "posting or sharing privately produced/distributed intimate media of someone without their express consent" and made it clear that "repeated violations may lead to a permanent suspension of your account".

/2
Benford's law has a history of being applied to election forensics, and was used as evidence of fraud in the 2009 Iranian elections. In the United States, evidence based on Benford’s law has been admitted in criminal cases at the federal, state, and local levels.

/3
I would be very interested to hear from @jack how sharing an article about mathematical/statistical methods regarding an election constitutes sharing "intimate media" and why it is grounds for locking my account, and threatening permanent suspension.

/4
I'm very concerned and disappointed at the direction Twitter has taken and is doubling down on. This is no longer a "public square" or a "window to the world". Twitter is now a severely biased, curated and censored platform. To the point of removing honest truth seeking.

/5
When you can no longer voice your thoughts, theories or opinions without fear of being deplatformed, and even sharing mathematics is out of bounds, what is the point of this place?

It's time to look for alternatives.

/END
Oh, forgot to mention... Twitter would only unlock my account if I deleted the offending tweet.

🤷‍♂️
