How Twice's Feel Special, a cheerful K-pop song, became an unlikely politcal anthem, thread
When the song came out last year as an upbeat lead single off the group's eight EP, it wasn't the political meme queen that it’s become post-COVID.

Producer JYP, who co-wrote the song, said he created the track hoping it would uplift people’s spirits.
The high tempo (129 BPM) synth-pop track itself is fairly innocuous but it was all the poltical tensions that have heavily affected the youth this year that saw the overpowering chorus "You make me feel special" co-opted by progressives around the world.
This video of a driver clashing with a Trump supporter while blasting the song in the car went viral in the run-up to the US elections.
The song also made an apperaence during a pro-democracy protest in Thailand as this gothic nun drag queen chose the track for her performance to make sure the LGBTQ persence was felt in their fight for democracy.
A viral fancam of Gerogia has also racked up millions of views, tocuhing upon its crucial role in the Electoral College and highlighting former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams who helped drive a decisive turnout in the state.
Also, this Dua Lipa/ Feel Special crossover meme that originally had millions of views is still a good laugh and will live in your head rent free for months ✨
