Today is #CouncilsCan Day - highlighting work undertaken by councils throughout the country, delivering crucial services which communities depend on.
This year has been like no other of course and East Suffolk Council has played a huge role in the response to Covid-19...
Providing support for vulnerable people has been incredibly important and one of the ways we have done this has been through the 'Home But Not Alone' Scheme - a phone number for people in difficulty backed by local volunteers providing assistance where it has been needed most.
We made a video with Communities Officers at the council about the impact their support has provided. With new restrictions in place, they're ready to help again and the phone number is live for people who need help. Please call 0800 876 6926. #CouncilsCan

To help reconnect older residents who are vulnerable due to social isolation, we introduced the East Suffolk Grandpad Loan Scheme to help people who have little contact with loved ones or the outside world due to a lack of Wi-Fi, equipment or skills. #CouncilsCan
Originally launched in 2018, we relaunched our Hidden Needs Programme in June in response to the pandemic. This £100,000 scheme was adapted to help fund projects which support people of all ages who are particularly vulnerable during this time. #CouncilsCan
One of the projects to benefit from Hidden Needs funding was Wednesday's Child, who provide support for people with eating disorders. The funding enabled @wearewednesdays to launch a new befriending programme to help support sufferers and their families. #CouncilsCan
To support vulnerable residents during the pandemic, we also launched the East Suffolk Covid-19 Community Fund. Over £102,000 was distributed to more than 60 groups - such as Hour Community in Framlingham - enabling them to provide vital services to those in need. #CouncilsCan
At the Port of Felixstowe, our Port Health Team play a vital role in protecting the public, the environment and animal health by ensuring that imported food meets the requirements and is safe for onwards sale. #CouncilsCan
During the pandemic, the Port Health Team have seen a significant increase in their workload due to very high demand, and they have been working incredibly hard to ensure that food is getting to the shops without delays. #CouncilsCan
We have found long-term homes for 33 people who were rough sleeping at the start of the pandemic, while 5 remain in temporary accommodation and continue to work closely with key partners to support rough sleepers and ensure as few as possible return to the streets. #CouncilsCan
To encourage people to talk about any money worries and avoid financial problems, East Suffolk Council joined forces with local Citizens Advice services to signpost residents with financial worries to free support and advice. #CouncilsCan
Anyone with financial worries can receive free, independent, impartial, and confidential advice from Citizens Advice by calling 0330 107 5627 or emailing [email protected] or visiting http://www.citizensadvice.org.uk . #CouncilsCan
Our repair and maintenance team worked tirelessly with local contractors to transform a former sheltered housing property at Avenue Mansions in Lowestoft in record time to help accommodate vulnerable people during the Covid-19 outbreak. #CouncilsCan
