Thinking about #tarot
I've been reading cards (& using other divination systems) for over 2 decades. Tarot in particular makes my heart sing.
I think it's awesome regardless of your metaphysics.
Wanna know why?

There are thousands of decks out there. Regardless of the art style that you enjoy, you can find something that you find beautiful. There are even a few large print & braille options.
Check out http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/ for reviews of many of them.

Once you've got a deck that you enjoy, you've got up to 78 pieces of art that make you smile. Even if all you do is look at them, or hang them on your wall, you've already won.

I love the tactile process of shuffling & laying them out. Both the ritual & the sensation of it are soothing to me.
Picking up my deck, laying out a cloth, taking a deep breath, shuffling, gathering my thoughts, forming a question... it all soothes my scattered brain.

The activity is, in itself, a way of finding peace. Once you've formed a question, or allowed your thoughts to settle on the thing they are circling you've given yourself a moment of clarity.
And then you focus on the cards, which offers a chance to think differently.

I like to phrase my questions as "how do I solve the worry?". This focuses my attention on what I *can* do, rather than what's keeping me stuck. This small choice in itself is an act of Will, an act of claiming your power to shift focus. An act of magic.

And then the reading. If you take the view that tarot cards can indicate the future, then it gives you a glimpse of what is *most likely currently*. Useful information whether you find it reassuring or see something you want to change.

If you're more psychologically minded, then they act like a rorschach test, reflecting what you already know. And we often know more than we think. It can allow you to recognize patterns that you've been ignoring, or that the chaos of worry has obscured.

Or, perhaps, both explanations hold truth. Something can be magically helpful and psychologically helpful. The world is vast, it contains multitudes.

The ways in which you read tarot can vary too. I learnt by reading the pictures like a picture book & then learned the symbolic meanings of the details later, like the astrological symbols / numerology. Others learn the details first & build meaning like a puzzle.

And, after all that, you can always use your deck as a way of exploring magical symbolism, for creative inspiration, for focal points in meditation... They contain so much information, & reflect the worldviews of the creators.
Tarot cards are windows into otherworlds.

And, as I may perhaps have mentioned...
They are absolute worlds of art that soothe my heart, each of my decks is like an old friend who wraps me in their beauty and sings to me of magic, spirit, and the creative love of humanity.
*happysighs*
#Tarot is pretty awesome.

OH! And tarot makers have a sense of humour.
The "Happy Squirrel" card, from that Simpsons episode? Yeah... there are now several decks which feature them. Check it out: http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/decks-with-a-happy-squirrel.shtml
