Something I’d like to invite you all to notice. Conservatives repudiate the idea of unity, as do we.

They do so because of what they’ve been called.

Not afraid of losing their health care, or their house, or their legal standing, or their loved ones, or their lives.

Criticism.
We refuse to try to try to unify with people who support policy that will exclude and harm and kill us and our loved ones.

They refuse because they resent having received the most awful consequence an abuser can imagine, which is accurate criticism.
This joke from March made the rounds after Rick Santorum suggested that Trump voters needed time and space to process their feelings.

MAGA America discovered it today.

Someone tell Joe Biden: they do NOT want to unify. https://twitter.com/juliusgoat/status/1239169906194755584
Take a look through the comments. There’s no fear of oppression there. Their lives aren’t threatened. They aren’t being menaced.

They just resent being called what they are.
You might key in on the hypocrisy or the sociopathic disregard for others or the suffocating self-regard and privilege.

I’d invite you to notice something else.

They care how they’re perceived, by us and others.

They care.

They’re moral cowards at the end of the day.
A fascist president made them bold, but mostly they’re afraid of the consequence of bad public opinion.

They fear the strength of good people seeing evil and saying something.

They fear a critical mass of opprobrium that’ll send them scurrying for cover again.

Give it to them.
It’s so sad in a way. I’ve been called horrible things by MAGA types over the years, truly vile and awful things.

I’m glad. I’d be ashamed to have not offended MAGA America.

Because I don’t care what they think. Their opinion of me means nothing to me.

But they care.
They don’t care what we think because they like or admire us—they clearly hate us.

They care what we think because they know they’re moral weaklings, cowards to the bone.

If enough people call them out, they’ll scurry back under the carpet for another generation.

Do it.
