It's way past my bedtime but I'm going to leave you all with this little lesson.

A few years ago, after Unite the Right, I joined a group of activists from all different stripes for a private conference on how to build against the surging far-right.
People came from all different backgrounds. I was there as part of a contingent of people representing Charlottesville and our community needs. One of the most fascinating people I met was someone working for an anti-Christian supremacy org.
They presented a very detailed and well-mapped landscape of the evangelical, Christian supremacist far-right. Everything from how money flowed to who published homeschool textbooks and how it was all connected.
And then they said something that totally changed my perspective on the far-right. They said that these are people who are true believers. They don't expect to see what they're fighting for within their lifetimes. They have multi-generational plans.
I chew on that almost every day. It makes me think about why the left keeps losing, and how when the left loses it feels so devastating.

It also taught me something about how the right weathers the cycles of loss and gain.
When you understand that this is how the right sees the world and approaches their politics, suddenly we become less sensitive to these small currents.

The Republicans know they lost 2020. They're not fighting from behind to pull out a win in 2020.

They're already on 2022/24
They want you to believe they haven't given up the fight. Because if *you* believe it, then their base will also believe it.

And if they're "proven wrong," they're actually proven right. They have made it so their base doesn't have to accept defeat.
They will then harness that energy and try to use it to frame the Biden presidency as illegitimate. Much as the Dems did with the Trump presidency.

Look forward. You gotta look forward. What you see now are the first acts for the next election cycle. Start preparing now.
