Insanity is an inability to prioritize. Everything is simultaneous relevant and irrelevant. It all becomes static. The insane cannot move toward a goal for this very reason: the ability to have hierarchies of importance is a prerequisite for working toward a goal.

Insanity is often characterized as something that is outlandish or outside of the Overton window of acceptable ideas. For example, suggesting that walking barefoot on dirt is healthy is considered “insane” today simply because it has not been sufficiently substantiated by science

Indeed, it’s interesting how much we have deferred our judgement of sound and unsound ideas to a scientific establishment that has been shown to be corruptible many times. But I digress.

Insanity used in the case of dismissing outlandish ideas is a form of slur to silence an uncomfortable idea rather than risk altering ones worldview.
