I think it’s really interesting when we call people who have protested against lockdown idiots. I don’t agree with them- especially with underlying health issues in my family- but individualism is firmly part of the foundation of British and Welsh society

This doesn’t mean I agree with them, or I’d join a protest. Utilitarian approaches towards society are deeply embedded in colonial and colonizing society. Capitalism cannot exist without individualism- or utilitarianism.

Our whole lives in the west we are taught to prioritize the self- this is exactly what these protestors are doing. This is what society has taught them. Nothing, absolutely nothing, trumps the desire of the individual.

For years, our universities have denied special measures for students with disabilities, work has disallowed you to work from home- all while people with chronic illness needed these accommodations that have been widely implemented because of the pandemic

But now that there is a threat to the means of production in a potential loss of capital, this has become the norm. Special measures implemented, ones students and workers were told were impossible

These protestors know that there is a survival rate of over, what is it, 99.7%? This means they’re OK with human sacrificing 0.3% of the population. We can all reach consensus on that being absolutely Fucking fucked
