Okay, time for a *thread* I've been meaning to do for a while.

Okay, now for the meat. Almost all pharma products are produced in bioreactors, which are essentially a large fermenter to make bacteria multiply at a controlled rate.

They are filled with a (typically) glucose and water solution, along with the nutrients the bacteria need to replicate the drug they are producing.
Then, E. Coli bacteria are introduced, with the subject drug, and as they multiply, they replicate the drug.

Let me reiterate:
DRUGS ARE PRODUCED BY BACTERIA DIVIDING.
Takes about 30-40 days for a batch, and produces many kilos of pure product. Consider the active ingredient quantities in most pills to estimate profit margin.
Estimate is tens of millions per run for most drugs.

And then the system resets, cleans, adds new materials, and a shot of inoculum from the previous batch. The cycle is nearly endless, and requires nearly no input costs.

This is where Puerto Rico shines. They pay taxes on imports to PR, and none on exports to the USA.

The damning part is twofold. First, drug prices are MASSIVELY inflated.
Second, this tech can be used to replicate an utter sh!++on to molecules.
Between these two, there is no reason why drugs and other advances should be expensive.
