On this "two votes" proposal (short thread)
(1/4) Certain elements of the movement have all but conceded that our route to independence will require TWO votes. The precedent was set with @theSNP alignment to the People's Vote campaign. https://twitter.com/ScotNational/status/1325919962729504780

(2/4) If our referendum is to be called upon a pro-independence majority at Holyrood in May, for the back end of 2021, then a campaign on the specifics (currency, Trident, EU etc) over 6 months becomes difficult. This forces it to be a broad (plebiscite?) referendum question.
(3/4) If we win? A transition period then follows, somewhat different from the 'Brexit deal' saga, focusing on establishing a currency and presumably negotiating EU accession. This may be why neither issue has been seen as a cause for concern / been bumped down the road.
(4/4) This transition, more than likely, takes us into 2024 where the second vote will take place, 10 years on from the last.
*I will add that I believe this route to be a mistake but it aligns with some of the proposals I've heard leaked from meetings involving SNP hierarchy.
